LinkStation Pro Upgrade Harddisk

1. Backup link station data to USB drive.

2. Replace hard disk into linkstation pro.

3. Direct connect linkstation to PC with network cable. Do NOT power on linkstation yet.

4. Set PC network IP to 192.168.11.1 Then turn off firewall on PC.

5. Power on linkstation. Run TFTP Boot on PC at the same time. Ensure TFTP Boot show 'listening at 192.168.11.1'. If not, close TFTP Boot and run again.

6. Linkstation will beep and beep.

7. If success in going into EM mode, linkstation will stop beeping. Boot firmware will to restore to Linkstation. IP of Linkstation will be changed to 192.168.11.150.

8. Then run LSUpdater. Click top left corner 'Debug' mode. Click all option. Start.

9. When finish, the linkstation is ok with new Harddisk. 'admin' default 'password'.

Origami ? A new jargon unknown to everyone up to this moment.
UMPC stands for Ultra Mobile PC

Engadget had first hand image today on one of the first Origami / UMPC ....

The thumb input concept seems quite good ar ....

From readings from Engadget,it seems UMPC are XP tablet PC with 7 inch display ...

I wonder what's is Apple's response to these UMPC / Origami stuff ....

Helping Hand

Today I worked till late. I got a can of beer from 7-11 before I get into the MTR. While I am finishing the beer in the street, I saw a sweating Kweilo empty handed rushing out from MTR. His look is obviously in lost. He approached me and I expected him asking me for direction to somewhere.

'I am just back from Macau and I lost my bag and everything ... I will be going to embassy tomorrow .... could you give me help and I can pay you back...' he asked.

As a traditional Chinese of course I doubted his truthfulness .... My mind run fast.....

'What if he is telling the truth and he is in real trouble ??' I asked myself.

In a split second and I made up my mind ....

'You are really unlucky ... I am also running out of cash ... I've got only 40 (HK) dollar in my wallet ...' I said to him while I emptied my wallet and handed the 40 dollar to him.

He took my 40 dollar with appreciation and without any trace of 'dissatisfaction'.

'Thanks so much ! BTW, where is Lockhart Road as somebody told me I can find many tourist there for help ...' He said.

I told him the direction and we shake hand and I say good luck.

Five minutes later I am at MTR platform, starting to write this ... still unsure whether I was being cheated.

In the reflection of the platform glass panel door, I have the glimpse of that Kweilo, but with a small plastic bag in hand ....

I did not looked back.

A 40 dollar lesson.

My iPod is dead ?????

My lovely iPod who accompanied me everyday for 3 and a half year is dead ???

I brought this dear 2nd Generation iPod (Touch wheel) of mine in Sept 2002 and have been in use almost everyday !!! Recently I note my iPod sometimes fail after I unplug it from charger or from the computer. It will go back to the language menu and then all songs would seems gone !!! But the song wasn't really gone as the iTunes would shows that all songs are still inside the iPod if I reconnect it to PC.

The details are as follows :

My setup :
2nd Generation 10G iPod
Windows format FAT32
Upgraded to version 1.5 with Windows iPod updater dated 17.11.2005

Background :
For the past 2 years, the iPod may sometimes report no songs. But after several reset (i.e. holding menu and play keys together), the songs will suddenly re-appear. The situation get worse recently and repeatitive reset now cannot bring back the songs.

Symptoms :
1. Reset will only go back to 'choose language menu'
2. "About" menu report :
- Songs : 0
- Capacity/Available : 4294967295 GB (yes, it said GB)
- Version : 1.5
- S/N : [correct s/n]
- Format : Unknown

Action taken :
1. I did complete reformatted the iPod in Windows 2000 to FAT32
2. Run the 17.11.05 updater with PC for version 1.5 (Restore option used)
3. Then connect the freshly restored empty version 1.5 FAT32 iPod to iBook
4. iTunes 6.0.2 at iBook works perfect with the iPod
5. Updating (songs) to iPod runs smoothly and observed all songs transferred to iPod successfuly (about 7 GB of songs)
6. iTunes automatically disconnect the iPod after completed updating (songs)
7. Unplug the iPod from iBook --> Apple logo appeared on iPod ---> Boom ... No songs ... symptoms above appeared !!!!

Additional info :
I tried to reformat the iPod with iBook and used appropriate Mac version updater to restore also into Mac version 1.5 iPod and the above symptom will sometimes appears also, normally if after I drained the battery ....
i.e. After drained the battery, then after rechage of the iPod it will also report no songs and capapcity/available 4294967295 GB .....

It's Mid Autumn Festival. Mooncake is our festival food.
This is the largest moon cake I ever seen ...

It is home-made by one of my colleague's family. The whole office shared TWO such mooncake and below is the 'small bit' I got ...

It's of a size of one-fourth of a noral size mooncake !!!

Disneyland Hong Kong finally .....

Finally, today is Hong Kong Disneyland's grand opening. Though it is small, I feel exicited about that. Mickey, welcome to HK !!This super Disney fan (Derrick Johnson) is really funny. He is amongst the first to enter the Disneyland. His act of kissing the land of the theme park attracted so much media attention.

Wow, the name said it all.

Nano is smaller than mini, so this iPod Nano is smaller than the iPod mini it replaced.

It's only 0.27 inch thick (even thinner than iPod Shuffle) and has colour display and photo viewing is possible !!!

The cable of my headphone developed bad contact near the left earbulb.

I called Shure HK and they confirmed that it is still covered by their 2 years warranty (I brought it in May 2004) and they asked me to bring the headphone to the shop for handling.

The shop 新時代 in causeway bay where I brought the headphone no longer exist. Luckily their sister shop, 旺角音響中心 will handle the warranty matters.

I brought the headphone to 旺角音響中心 and presented my receipt ... without asking a single question, they took out an un-opened E2c and 'break' the box in front of me.... Wow, their warranty policy is 'Replace with a new pair' !!!

I now have a brand new headphone for the rest of my warranty period. Hopefully it will last for more than 1 and a half year more !!! I will exercise extra care to keep it in good shape to prolong its life !!!

Oh my God ! It's September 2005 la ....

It is my turn to report duty every morning on or before 8:30 am ! This will last for whole September !!!

The purpose of early arrival is to ensure that there would be someone in the office and be ready to report to the Director by 9:00am, in the slim event that there would be an urgent media broke-out in that morning ....

What a stupid arrangement it is ....

BTW, Mr. Cheng is no longer on air and phone-in show is OUT la ....

The landslide happens during the heavy rainfall over the last weekend and it is located behind the school where my elder sister works at ....

Lucky the mud stopped before it reaches the school !!! Thanks God ! My sister told me that all the staff were having a meeting when the police came in to ask them to vacate from the school ....

Tried to edit the Blog's Template's heading photo today and here are the steps ...

1. located the pic to be "http://www.blogblog.com/rounders4/bg_hdr_bot.jpg" it was 740 x 150 pixels

2. in Picasa2, select Eric Tsang putting picture (of course taken with S500)

3. do the touch up with Picasa, it is really easy and fun !!! Used crop, soft focus & focal B&W effects. And here is the result

4. lastly resize to 740 x 150 by Windows' Draw.

5. finally, replace the link in the template
